It's nearly that time of the year — pumpkin spice, Halloween spookiness and New York Fashion Week.
The September week of fashion brings returning designers including Sergio Hudson, Christian Siriano, Proenza Schouler and Brandon Maxwell, all showcasing their spring/summer 2024 collections. Ralph Lauren, Jonathan Cohen and 3.1 Phillip Lim will also be making a special return after hiatus.
New York Fashion Week first-timers include Advisry, Chan Chit Lo, FFORME, Grace Ling and Sho Konishi.
The preliminary schedule features more than 71 confirmed designers, with additional collections being presented digitally and by appointment.
Here's everything to know about NYFW 2023.
When is New York Fashion Week?
NYFW officially runs from Sept. 8 to Sept. 13 on the Council of Fashion Designers of America calendar.
Helmut Lang, with Peter Do making his debut show as creative director, is the first of 71 labels on the CFDA calendar to present a runway show of its new collections for the September week of fashion. CFDA's 2022 accessory designer of the year, Luar, will close the week with a show on Sept. 13.
You can view the Council of Fashion Designer's Fashion Calendar here and New York Fashion Week's complete schedule here. NYFW is one of the four major fashion weeks globally, followed by Milan, London and Paris.
What is the purpose of fashion week?
Historically, New York Fashion Week has served as a way to showcase designers' creations with presentations and runway shows for fashion journalists and store buyers. From 1993 to 2009, the shows happened under white tents at Bryant Park in Midtown Manhattan, relocating farther uptown in 2010 to Lincoln Center before finding its current home downtown at Spring Studios in 2015.
"New York Fashion Week is an integral part of New York City’s vibrant culture and sense of constant evolution and discovery," CFDA CEO Steven Kolb said in a press release. "This season's official New York Fashion Week schedule plays to this sentiment and will once again showcase the best of American fashion, both emerging and established."
The events each season allow editors, buyers, celebrities and consumers to preview designers' collections.

What celebrities will attend New York Fashion Week?
While the guest list of fashion week is usually kept under lock and key, celebrity watchers can expect stars with the most buzz to attend shows. But certainly, one can expect Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour to attend some of the shows in the front row.
In the past, shows have included drum cameos from Travis Barker, Julia Fox (on and off the runway), Kimora Lee Simmons cheering on daughter Aoki and Janet Jackson pop-ups.
